Supplier Profile - Rosie of Rosemary Jane Bride

I'm very happy to say, it's time to meet the lovely Rosie. I've known Rosie for a few years now, having seen her work on line I sought her out at a wedding fair and we've been friends ever since. Rosie's work is absolutely gorgeous and she really invests in creating the perfect, one-off wedding dress for her clients. Her use of colour and bespoke details are inspired. If you are looking for a truly unique wedding, Rosie is the girl to talk to.

What 5 words do you think best represent you and your brand?

Colourful, Creative, Quirky, Classic Shapes, Unique

What is your "unique selling point"?

My work is colourful, hand made and unique to each woman. I try to understand each and every customer's personality before starting a design. The designs are completely tailored around the client and no two outfits are the same.

What is your background?

My background is in film and theatre costume. When I left university, I landed a job on "Prince Of Persia". Since then I've worked on big budget films like "Cinderella", "Snow White and the Huntsman", Doctor Strange, Florence Foster Jenkins" and "The Iron Lady", to name a few. I've also worked for a costume tailor and worked on pieces for Glyndebourne, The Royal Opera House and West End Muscicals such as "Motown", "Half A Sixpence", "Les Miserables" and "Hamilton".

What is your favourite thing about your job?

The variety. No two jobs have ever been the same. Every bride and her family / friends are so different. Their style varies and I'm always challenged to come up with new idea and thing outside the box. For a designer that's really exciting.

What area do you cover?

I'm based in Steyning, West Sussex, but my customers usually come from all over the South East, including London. I have a client right now who is based in Cheltenham.

What do you wish you were better at?

(absolutely does not have to be work related).

I wish I could sing. Being the mum of a toddler, I'm asked to sing all the time and often in public places which I find really embarrassing.

Give a fun random fact about yourself.

I play the piano. Not very well these days as I don't have much time practice, but I enjoy a good old Disney theme. Very uncool I know, but there it is!

Describe your own style

For someone who makes dresses, I tend to dress down the majority of the time. You need to be comfortable when you are sewing (and when you are hanging out with a toddler) but, when I have an event I love to make something new. I have lots of vintage / retro patterns which I love to try out with modern prints. I've just made myself an 80's jumpsiut in a bold floral linen with lime green accents for my sister-in-law's wedding in the summer.

...your favourite place is?

Me and my husband love Pembrokeshire in Wales. We try to go every couple of years. We just hang out together, eat in nice pubs and argue over ridiculous words we come up with in Scrabble.

Can you draw?

I can, but I wish I was better at drawing hands, feet and faces.

I can do quick fashion drawings as I do them all the time.

What is your favourite food?

Tapas! I love potatas Bravas!

What makes you happy?

My family, especially the things my little boy says to me. He makes me laugh so much.

What is your favourite season and why?

I love the blossoms on the trees, the lambs in the field and the daffodils and tulips springing up. This is why I got married in the spring

What is your top tip for anyone planning their wedding?

Don't get hung up about the tiny details or what other people think or have done. They just don't matter that much. Have your budget in mind and figure out what is most important to YOU as a couple and not your families and friends. If it means cutting back on some area, then you should do it. Don't spread your money too thinly and, most of all, always be yourself.

How do we see more of your work?

Massive thanks to Rosie. A dress designed and made specifically for you is a very special thing. Let's not forget either that Rosie also makes clothing for other special events and mother of the bride ensembles.
